BOC foils 160- M cigarette smuggling bid in Misamis Oriental

MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Custims (BOC) on Saturday stated it seized an  estimated P160 million price of smuggled cigarettes at a port in Mindanao.

The cargo arrived on December 16, 2022 from China and had been inspected on January 18 at Mindanao Container Terminal Port in Misamis Oriental, stated the BOC.  

“BOC-Port of Cagayan de Oro has foiled an try to smuggle two containers of cigarettes valued at P160 million after a spot-check examination,” stated the bureau in a press release. 

Two native BOC divisions, the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service, and the  Enforcement and Safety Service, requested the examination. 

In response to the BOC, the consignees declared the cargo as “private results”.

Representatives from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Company and a Chamber of Customs Brokers Inc. had been additionally current to witness the examination. 

“Warrants of Seizure and Detention might be issued in opposition to the smuggled cigarettes for misdeclaration,” stated the BOC.
